What is ViewerFX for Crystal Reports
ViewerFX for Crystal Reports is a desktop application for viewing, refreshing, and delivering Crystal Reports — the .rpt files produced by Crystal Reports — without installing Crystal Reports.
A focused tool, not a platform
Section titled “A focused tool, not a platform”ViewerFX does one thing: it opens Crystal Report (.rpt) files and lets you work with them. It is a viewer, not the tool that authors reports — the people who design reports use Crystal Reports; the people who need to read, refresh, and share those reports use ViewerFX. Reading a saved report is free, so someone who only needs to look at a report can do so without a paid license (see ViewerFX editions).
What you can do with it
Section titled “What you can do with it”- View a report’s saved data, or refresh it to pull current data from its data source (see Connection and data-source settings).
- Move through a report — page, zoom, search its text, and drill through its group tree (see Navigating in reports).
- Narrow what a report shows with the record selection formula and saved parameters (see Using the selection formula).
- Deliver a report by printing it, exporting it to a range of formats (see Export format types), emailing it, or publishing it over FTP (see About report distribution).
- Keep the reports you use often in the Favorites Center, which also lists the reports you have recently opened (see Opening reports and Run history).
The commands are organized in a two-tab ribbon — see About the ribbon for the full command reference and About the work area for the window layout.
Editions and licensing
Section titled “Editions and licensing”ViewerFX is desktop-only and comes in three editions — Free, Standard, and Site (see ViewerFX editions). It starts as a 45-day trial with every feature enabled, then continues in Free Mode with a registered free key; a paid license unlocks the full feature set (see Trial, Free Mode, and paid licensing). The feature list shows what each edition includes.
To install ViewerFX, see Installing from the setup bundle; to move from the trial or Free Mode to a paid license, see Activating the product.
